Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objective of this course is for students to learn theories, research outcomes, and research approach regarding the methodology in mathematics education through reading Japanese literatures of studies of mathematics education and to cultivate fundamental abilities to research the methodology in mathematics education proactively. 
Class Schedule Lesson 1: Seminar Overview and Objectives
Students are provided with an overview of the seminar to identify objectives.
Lesson 2: Position of Methodology of Mathematics Education
This lesson explains the position of methodology of mathematics education in research and practice so that students can understand the meaning of methodology of mathematics education and raise their awareness of the issues.
Lesson 3: Research Outcomes of Methodology of Mathematics Education (1) Instruction & Learning
Students are expected to learn research outcomes regarding instructions and learning in mathematic education through reading literatures on methodology of mathematics education and learning.
Lesson 4: Research Outcomes of Methodology of Mathematics Education (2) Cognition and Understanding
Students are expected to learn research outcomes regarding cognition and understanding in mathematic education through reading literatures on methodology of mathematics education and learning.
Lesson 5: Research Approach of Methodology of Mathematics Education (1) Lesson Structure and Analysis
Students are expected to learn research outcomes regarding lesson structure and analysis in mathematic education through reading literatures on methodology of mathematics education and learning.
Lesson 6: Research Approach of Methodology of Mathematics Education (2) Investigations and Experiments
Students are expected to learn research outcomes regarding investigations and experiments in mathematic education through reading literatures on methodology of mathematics education and learning.
Lesson 7: Evaluation and Explanation of Report Assignment 1 and Discussion
The instructor returns the report assignment to students with an explanation of the evaluation and discuss each student's research topic for further exploration.
Lesson 8: Implementation of Research on Methodology of Mathematics Education (1) Observation of Mathematics Lesson
Students present the work process of their research and have a group discussion for further research.
Lesson 9: Implementation of Research on Methodology of Mathematics Education (2) Analysis of Mathematics Lesson
Students present the work process of their research and have a group discussion for further research.
Lesson 10: Implementation of Research on Methodology of Mathematics Education (3) Lesson Plan of Mathematics
Students present the work process of their research and have a group discussion for further research and summarizing the outcomes.
Lesson 11: Presentation of Outcomes of Research on Methodology of Mathematics Education (1) Presentation by Group 1
Students present their research outcomes and have a group discussion to identify their issues and make a better summary of the outcomes.
Lesson 12: Presentation of Outcomes of Research on Methodology of Mathematics Education (2) Presentation by Group 2
Students present their research outcomes and have a group discussion to identify their issues and make a better summary of the outcomes.
Lesson 13: Presentation of Outcomes of Research on Methodology of Mathematics Education (3) Presentation by Group 3
Students present their research outcomes and have a group discussion to identify their issues and make a better summary of the outcomes.
Lesson 14: Evaluation and Explanation of Report Assignment 2 and Discussion (2) Reflection
The instructor returns the report assignment to students with an explanation and discuss each student's research topic so that the students will become able to conduct a research proactively.

The instructor returns the report assignment to students with an explanation and discuss each student's research topic so that the students will become able to conduct a research proactively.

Students are evaluated based on presentations, group discussions, and report assignments.

After Lesson1:
After reviewing the outline of the seminar and clarifying the objectives, search for reference literatures and get them.
After Lesson2-6:
Read the reference literature, sort out the contents and clarify questions.
【Report Assignment1】
Consider research outcome and research approach of methodology of mathematics education and think about a research topic to work on based on the reference literatures.
After Lesson7
Study the evaluation of your report assignment and clarify your research topic and approach based on the discussions.
After Lesson 8-13:
Integrate principles and methods of mathematics education and knowledge and skills of the contents, search for literatures and materials related to your research topic, work on your research systematically, and prepare yourself to present the work process and research outcomes.
【Report Assignment2】
Write a final repot on your research. Organize the points of your argument and write an easy-to-understand report.
After Lesson14-15:
Study the evaluation of your report assignment, clarify your challenge based on the discussions, and think about measures to conduct a research on methodology of mathematics education proactively. 
Requirements Teaching methods of school subject (mathematics)
Open only to students of Cluster 2 Science, Technology and Society Education.
It is desirable that students have taken Methodology of Mathematics Education and Introduction to Mathematics Education I&II.
This course will be a seminar style class. 
Grading Method Students are evaluated based on presentations & group discussion (50%) and report assignments(50%).
Students' ' Intellectual capabilities & skills 1' and ' Comprehensive capabilities & skills a' will be evaluated based on report assignments and presentations & discussions. 
Practical Experience  
Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it  
Message This course is a seminar style class. You are expected to actively search for literatures and materials, write a report based on those, clarify issues, and have discussions. Japanese language is mainly used with the materials written in English language.
