・Having knowledge of psychological traits of children with disabilities as well as basic medical knowledge required in practice. 
Class Objectives
/Class Outline
As the basic matters related to the psychology, physiology, and pathology of hearing impairment, students learn about the function of hearing, auditory perception, diseases causing hearing impairment, audiometry, structure and function of hearing compensation devices, and self awareness of disability. As matters related to the actual conditions of hearing and language development of infants and children, students learn about the characteristics of hearing difficulties, means of communication, language information processing, and reading and writing. As matters related to cooperation with families and related institutions, support for parents and various ways of life of the hearing impaired are studied.

Lesson 11: Effects of hearing impairment on language information processing and language development
Lesson 12: Reading and writing characteristics in deaf children (phonology and semantics)
Lesson 13: Reading and writing characteristics in deaf children (syntax and discourse)
Lesson 14: Self awareness of disability in deaf students

Lesson 5: Understand physiological and pathological aspects of hearing disabilities.
Lesson 6: Understand audiometry according to child's development
Lesson 7-8: Learn the structure and function of hearing aid devices.
Lesson 9: Think about anxiety of parents who have a deaf child.
Lesson 10: Think about the effect of hearing impairments on communication.
Lesson 11-13: Think about the effects of hearing impairment on language information processing and language development.
Lesson 14: Think about psychological issues of deaf students.
Lesson 15: Think about diverse lives of the hearing impaired. 
Requirements This is a required course that corresponds to Section2 of the Teachers License Act (Teacher Certification for Special Needs School). Students are required to fill in an attendance form in every lesson. 
Grading Method Students will be evaluated comprehensively based on commitment to lectures and assignments (10%), accomplishment of assignments (10%), and a writing exam or a report (80%).
