The objective of this course is for students to understand problems caused by being blind and having low vision and their effects, and psychological characteristics necessary for effective education for hearing impaired infants and children, particularly, what need to be kept in mind focusing around the development of children with visual perception disorder, haptic perception disorder, and visual impairment.                                                                            
Class Schedule 1. Guidance: What is psychology of visual impairments?
2. Structure and functions of visual organs (1)
 Think about characteristics and imaging system of light and lens based on experiments
3. Structure and functions of visual organs (2)
 Explain the route of eyeball-optic nerve -cerebral vision
4 Visual function
 Explain visual functions centering around vision
5. Visual function
 Explain visual functions centering around a field of view and eyeball movement
6. Visual function
 Think about development of vision and factors that affect visual development
7. Low-Vision and visual perception (1)
 Experience amblyopia through simulation and mutual provisions of the relations between how people with amblyopia see and their difficulties
8. Low-Vision and visual perception(2)
Experience amblyopia through simulation (narrowing  visual field )and mutual provisions of the relations between how people with amblyopia see and their difficulties
9. Low-Vision and visual perception(3)
 Present the result of the simulation for review

 Touch and observe flat tactile teaching materials to understand deeply how students with visual impairments can understand the materials by touching

 Touch several tactile teaching materials and experience various ways of touching to understand deeply how students with visual impairments can understand the materials by touching

Lesson1-15: Review handouts and your notebook well. When you review, do no not try to memorize what is written there but to connect organically with what you learned in other lessons and/or what you experienced in class observation and other activities.
BYOD 
Requirements "This course corresponds to Section2 of Subjects for Special Needs Education for the Teacher Certification for Special Needs School (first class certificate): mentally disabled preschool children, psychology of young children and school children, subjects regarding physiology and pathology.
A tardy is equivalent to 1/2 absence.
If you are absent for 1/5 or more of this course, you will not be allowed to take a final principle in principle.
 
Grading Method Students will be evaluated based on contribution in class and exam.
 
Practical Experience Experienced  
Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it A teacher(Dr. Ujima) who has worked for 12 years at a school for the blind will give lectures on the psychology, evaluation, and teaching methods of visually impaired people. 
Message "You are expected to participate in the lessons actively and use the time for Q&A effectively to resolve all of your questions in class. You are also expected review the contents of the lessons well.
BYOD
This will be the first lesson for you as a university student. Please learn to actively participate in the lesson; once the instructor comes to the classroom, you should stop talking with each other and help the instructor prepare for the lesson, and help clean up the classroom after the lesson.  
Other A teacher who has worked for 12 years at a school for the blind will give lectures on the psychology, evaluation, and teaching methods of visually impaired people. 
Please fill in the class improvement questionnaire which is carried out on all classes.
Instructors will reflect on your feedback and utilize the information for improving their teaching.
