Class Objectives

The purpose of this course is for student who aims to become teachers to learn how learning support in nature and outdoor activities should be and acquire knowledge and skills needed to be teachers, by planning and actually managing a outdoor activity program.
 
Class Schedule This is an intensive course. The schedule of Field Studies on Community Education in the second semester will be informed in the orientation.


This is an intensive course consisting of three sessions: 1) 2days and 1night, 2) 3 days and 2nights, and 3) 1 day.

1) The orientation includes planning of the field activity programs, preparation icebreaking, and a lecture (the Field Studies on Outdoor Education). There will be four group works (in the afternoon and night of Day 1, and the morning and afternoon of Day 2). Planning and preparation for camping will be done in the second group work.

2) The students will have a camping with elementary school children from Etajima City where this outdoor activity is held(An application form for this camping will be made in 1).
Friday night and Saturday morning: Meeting & preparation
Saturday afternoon: Registration of participating elementary school children, Opening ceremony – Activity 1- Dinner – Activity 2 – Bedtime for the elementary school students – Meeting
Sunday: Breakfast – Activity 3- Lunch- Closing ceremony, Meeting for reviewing.

3) Have a meeting to evaluate the outdoor education, make a list of improvement ideas, and reflect on the camping in a group.
Each group will make a presentation on their evaluation of the outdoor education program and their suggestions for improvement and wrap up the work.

Preparation and
Review
As this is an intensive course held outside the university campus, an orientation will be held during the course registration period. Students will be required to create ‘ Preparation Sheet’ before the 1st lesson.
1: Eat and sleep together and do activities together for 2 days and 1night. The success of learning through these activities depends on how well you manage your time and your health conditions. Your questions will be worked out and answered with other students and the center’s staff.
2: Have meetings to review the previous session to clarify the points of the lesson and resolve questions.
3:Identify your challenge and overcome issues based on reflection on yourself and others. 
Requirements This course will be an irregular intensive course. An orientation will be held. Please check the message board for the announcement of the orientation. It is desirable to take ‘Field Studies on Outdoor Activities’.
The students have to pay a fee including meals (about 8,000 yen for three sessions). For example in Session1, a breakfast, a dinner, and 2 lunches will be served. All meals are buffet style.

Message Students of this course will have an opportunity to work as volunteer staff in the National Etajima Youth Outdoor Learning Center.
