This lecture is located as the basic subject of the program and is aimed to develop the basic knowledge and attitude which will be needed to teach elementary school science as a teacher.

This lecture explains the purposes, contents, methods, evaluation, and lesson structure of science education in elementary schools to cultivate basic knowledge and capabilities needed for designing and practicing science lessons in elementary schools. 
Class Schedule Lesson1: The overview and objectives of this course:
Explain the overview and objectives of this course and raise awareness of issues to acquire capabilities needed for creating and practicing science lessons.
Lesson2: The objectives of the curriculum guideline of science for elementary schools 2017.
Explain the objectives of science for elementary schools based on the current curriculum guideline.
Lesson3: The contents of the curriculum guideline of science for elementary schools 2017.
Explain the contents of science for elementary schools based on the current curriculum guideline.
Lesson4: Revision of the curriculum guideline of science for elementary schools.
Have an objective overview of the characteristics of the curriculum guidelines of science 1947, 1952, 1958, 1968, 1977, 1989, and 1998 and explain the background and others of the revision of the guideline.
Lesson5: Requirements of designing and practicing science lessons ( discussion on video-taped lessons)
Watch a video-taped science lesson and discuss and examine problems in the lesson.
Lesson6: Requirements of designing and practicing science lessons( Analysis of a video-taped lesson)
Examine issues to be studied for designing and practicing a science lesson in consideration of discussion in Lesson5.
Lesson7: Learning theory of science (centering around natural cognition of children)
Figure out characteristics of children’s view and way of thinking about natural events from a viewpoint of constructivist learning theory.
Lesson8: Learning theory of science ( centering around transformation in concept)
Examine the meaning and possibilities of fostering the scientific view & way of thinking which are aimed to be achieved through science education.
Lesson9: Learning theory of science( how science education should be)
Examine possibilities of a variety of expressions of learners regarding scientific concepts and study the viewpoints of figurative thinking and expression and communication activities between teachers and children.
Lesson10: How a concept of science education should be(Analysis)
Analyse a lesson plan of a unit, and consider how the unit constitution and teaching practice should be.
Lesson11: How a concept of science education should be(Improvement)
Examine how a unit constitution and a lesson concept of science should be based on analysis results of submitted tasks about lesson plan of a science unit.
Lesson12: Evaluation and assessment of teaching and learning
Explain perspective evaluation, relative and absolute evaluation, norm and criterial of evaluation etc.
Lesson13: Planning of a lesson plan and practice the plan (Focused on planning)
Develope a lesson plan of the designated science unit and improve it through discussion.
Lesson14: Planning of a lesson plan and practice the plan (Focused on practicing)
Practice a trial lesson as a micro-teaching based on the developed plan and improve it.
Lesson15: Summary
Review the whole course and identify knowledge, capabilities, capabilities, behaviors.
Examine the role of a teacher in developing a concept of a science lesson and practicing a science lesson and clarify issues to overcome for further developing of abilities.

A report will be assigned. Final exam will be held.

Lesson1: Understand the course overview and objectives
Lesson2-4: Review what you learned through each lesson and read relevant reference books and other materials.
Lesson5-6: Review what you learned through analysis of a video-taped lesson, discussion and relevant materials.
Lesson7-9:Review what you learned through each lesson and read relevant reference books and other materials.
Lesson10: A report assignment about teaching plan for a science unit, will be given. The unit and the contents of the report will be specified.
Lesson11: Summarize your thought about how a concept of science lessons should be based on your returned report and discussions during lessons.
Lesson12: Review what you learned through each lesson and read relevant reference books and other materials.
Lesson13-14: Review what you learned through developing and practicing a lesson plan, discussion about the plan and micro-teaching.
Lesson15: Identify challenge about a concept and practice of science lessons based on discussions during the lessons. Review the previous lessons based on reference books and others. Summarize important points and deepen understanding to be prepared for a final exam. 
Requirements Special Subject for Teacher Education: Teaching methods of school subject (science)
The classes will be specified. 
Grading Method Students will be evaluated based on exams(70%), reports(20%), and contribution on class(10%).
