Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The purpose of this lecture is to study important works from Goethe-Zeit to the biginning of the 20th century and to understand the diversity of German literature. 
Class Schedule The lecture will take up writers and works as follows.
We will deal with the following authors (works). which may be changed according to the wishes of the students. Students are expected to choose one or more of these and report on their research in class.

- Goethe, Die Leiden des jungen Werthers
- Fouque, Undine
- E.T.A. Hoffmanns works
- Buechner, Dantons Tod, etc.
- Kleist, Der zerbrochene Krug, etc.
- Hofmansthal, Ein Brief
- T. Manns works
- Hesses works
- Kafka, Die Verwandlung, etc.
- Brecht, Dreigroschenoper, etc.




Students should present a paper at the end of the term.

Every students should select one or two works and give a report (reports) in the class.
