This course is designed to acquaint students with American short stories written after 1945 by authors such as Hisaye Yamamoto, Flannery O’Connor, and Paul Auster. We’ll explore the richness and diversity of contemporary American fiction while learning about cultural and historical backgrounds of the authors and texts and discussing the literary devices (e.g. irony, foreshadowing, and symbols), motifs, and writing styles in each text. |
