The purpose of the course is to study a selection of early 20th-century American poetry.
In this course we will study a selection from the works of several early 20th-century American poets, including T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Robert Frost, and Wallace Stevens, focusing on the ways in which they illustrate the innovative styles and ideas of poets in this period, their responses to contemporary social and political changes, and their contrasting attitudes towards Romantic and Victorian culture. Students will be provided with texts to read before each class, and questions about them to discuss in the classes.
