Class Objectives
/Class Outline
In this course we study the ethical thought regarding lives of human, animals, and plants of Buddhism in Ancient India. Some aspects of the ethical thoughts in Brahmanism (ancient form of Hinduism) are also studied in connection with the Buddhist ethics. 
Class Schedule Lesson 1 Guidance: Buddhist ideas of the mind and actions and the standard of good and evil.
Lesson 2 Killing, suicide, errors in medical treatment, euthanasia in the Buddhist monastic law.
Lesson 3 Buddhist ethics of criminal punishment
Lesson 4 Buddhist ethics of war (1)
Lesson 5 Buddhist ethics of war (2)
Lesson 6 Buddhist ethics of animal life.
Lesson 7 Buddhist ethics of plant
Lesson 8 Reflection and conclusion

Students are required to submit a paper at the end of this course.
