Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The goal of this class is to familiarize students with the aesthetic and ideological characteristics of Japanese visual arts. As a practical example, the "animation" phenomenon is analysed. The oral presentations and the final term-papers of the participants should be focused on aspects of animation works released in Japan.

It is necessary to take both Japanese Popular Arts and Culture I (現代日本文化論 I) and Japanese Popular Arts and Culture Ⅱ(現代日本文化論 Ⅱ). 
Grading Method 3 small essays, each 10% x 3 =30% ("Tokyo Godfathers", "The Boy and the Beast", "Mary and the Witch's Flower")
oral presentation = 20% (a topic of your own choice; it depends on the number of participants)
term-paper = 50% (a topic of your own choice)
