Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objectives of this class are to learn basic skills for obtaining environmental data (climate, geology, topography, vegetation, material science etc.) and to understand the background of advanced studies concerning the natural environment.  The study site, Mt. Daisen is the highest mountain in Cugoku District, and therefore it is suitable for studying vertical changes in climate, vegetation and topography.  In addition, you can observe the impact of sediment movement and human activity on the natural environment.   
Class Schedule Day 1: Presentations of prior learnings at the campus
Day 2: Field experiments of geology and hydrology around Chugoku Mountains
Day 3: Field experiments of weather and ecology with climbing in Mt. Daisen, and visiting visitor house in Mt. Daisen
Day 4: Field experiments of topographic change, ecology, and hot spring around a coastal beech, Yumigahama, and visiting historical museum for ancient steel production in western Japan
Note that the schedule will be changed to the other plan depending on weather conditions.

Main schedule will be conducted from September 17 to 20.
The first meeting will be conducted in June, and the second in July. (the date has not yet decided).

Prior learnings will be conducted by a group working, and the submission of the report will be required up to the mid of September.  
Requirements The schedule from Sep. 18 to 20 may be changed depending on weather conditions.   
Grading Method Grading is based on a prior learning, field observations and experiments, and the final report.
