In this lecture, we will provide an overview of the interdisciplinary field of Visual Culture Studies. Visual culture encompasses a wide range of media, including what is traditionally considered as fine arts, as well as photography, film, television, advertising, comics, and fashion. How do we see and understand these visual images? We will explore methods to interpret the plethora of visual images that surround us. Focusing on exhibitions and advertising as our main topics, we will examine their roles and functions within modern and contemporary culture.

3.Manga Literacy: Metaphors, Speech Bubbles, and Panels
4.Film Literacy: The Grammar of Narrative Cinema
5.Painting Literacy: Iconography and Allegory (+ Comment Writing)

6.Review of the First Day and Answers to Questions
7.Models of Visual Communication: The Various Functions of Images
8.Exhibitions as Communication: From Belief to Commerce
9.Expositions and Department Stores: The Formation of Modern Cities
10.The Theory of Convenience Store Displays: Controlled Desires (+ Comment Writing)

11. Review of the Second Day and Answers to Questions
12. he Visual Culture of Advertising: Desire and Capitalism
13. Gaze and Power: How Images Move People
14. The Visual Culture of Tourism: The Project of "Seeing" the World
15. Overall Summary and Presentation of Report Assignment

The report is planned to be an assignment where students select one image of interest, describe and analyze it, and clarify its function, with submission scheduled for a later date.
