Class Objectives /Class Outline |
This course will delve into the ethical, legal, and social issues engendered by life sciences and medicine, employing films as a medium to examine these topics from diverse perspectives. We will critically assess the advantages and disadvantages of gene therapy, organ transplantation, enhancement, and euthanasia from an ethical viewpoint. Our primary aim is to encourage students not just to identify the issues at hand but to formulate and articulate their own reasoned conclusions. |

Requirements |
Students are encouraged to conduct preliminary studies on the topics to be covered in each session. This preparation will enhance the effectiveness of learning during interactive discussions. A minimum of ten attendances is required to receive course credit. Attendance will be recorded through comment sheets submitted to TAs after each class. Late arrivals (20 minutes after class has started) or leaving without a valid reason will be marked as absent but may still participate. |
Grading Method |
Four Short Reports: 100% (submitted four times) Students are required to submit a short report of approximately 1,000 words for each theme, with a total of four reports. These reports will be evaluated based on the depth of consideration given to each issue. |
