Class Objectives /Class Outline |
This course provides an opportunity to learn research methodologies and techniques that will allow students to practically analyze human behavior. In order to learn the entire process, students will form groups, agree on a research theme, plan & conduct research using questionnaires, and give final presentations. |

Lesson 1: Guidance
Lesson 2: Research methods (1) Learn how to conduct a questionnaire study
Lesson 3: Research methods (2) Learn how to develop a psychological scale
Lesson 4: Research methods (3) Learn how to conduct a study using psychological scales
Lesson 5: Planning for research using questionnaires (1): Discuss in groups and create research questions and hypotheses
Lesson 6: Planning for research using questionnaires (2): Decide as a group which scales to use and develop for the research
Lesson 7: Planning for research using questionnaires (3): Discuss in groups and decide upon the research plans
Lesson 8: Data collection Conduct research based on the questionnaires in order to examine the hypothesis
Lesson 9: Data analysis & hypothesis testing (1): Check the reliability and validity of the scales
Lesson 10: Data analysis & hypothesis test (2): Test the hypothesis using appropriate statistics
Lesson 11: Data analysis & hypothesis test (3): Further analyze and integrate the results.
Lesson 12: How to present research results Learn how to present research
Lesson 13: Report evaluation & commentary: Correct the report referring to the given feedback.

Suggestions on Preparation and Review |
1.Lessons 2–8: Understand how to create appropriate research plans. Learn the basics of developing questionnaires, create appropriate research questionnaires, and conduct research. 2.Lessons 9–11: Learn how to analyze data using statistical packages, choose appropriate methodologies using various purposes and hypotheses. 3.Lessons 12-14: Learn how to appropriately outline the research outcome in a report and a presentation format. Improve the other students’ comprehension and allow them to create better presentations that demonstrate the research outcome. |
Requirements |
(1) This course is a co-requisite for “Experimental Methods in Behavioral Sciences B”, and includes accompanying lectures. (2) This course is a pre-requisite if you are conducting your graduate research in the Behavioral Sciences Program (3) “Experimental Methods in Psychology,” “Fundamental Laboratory Work in Behavioral Sciences,” and “Practicum in Behavioral Sciences” are pre-requisites for this course. |
Grading Method |
(1) Reports 50% and attendance 50%. (2) The evaluation for this course is given in conjunction with “Experimental Methods in Psychology B.” Therefore, failure to register for “Experimental Methods in Psychology B” will result in the evaluation “Z” (absence). |
