対面, オンライン(同時双方向型)
Classes will be conducted both in person and online. Activities in the classroom will include lectures, discussions, fieldwork, PowerPoint presentations, films, and other audiovisual materials. Assignments will consist of presentations and report writing. Fieldwork is a vital component of this course, which includes a weekend trip to locations significant to historical memory. Please note that the class schedule may change due to unforeseen circumstances.

授業の目標・概要等 This course will delve into the fascinating contexts, mechanisms, and processes that govern how, why, and what individuals, groups, and societies remember and forget. Classes will illuminate the profound impact of memory on individuals and institutions across various social, cultural, cognitive, political, and technological landscapes, highlighting how these impacts evolve with time. Central to this field is the exploration of the dynamic interplay between memory and the development of personal and public identities, culture, and social communities. By understanding how memory influences our thoughts and behaviors, the students will come to grasp the ways it shapes societal dynamics and affects different groups at various moments. This course is designed to empower students with essential knowledge and skills, allowing them to critically examine the intricate relationship between memory, individual and collective thought and behavior, and the role of media. Through this exploration, you will gain valuable insights into the power of memory in our lives and society.

The assessment will include an end-of-term report (40%), two presentations (40%), and participation in classroom and fieldwork activities (20%).

Fieldwork is a vital element of this course, and it will encompass a weekend trip to heritage sites. Please note that the class schedule may be adjusted due to unforeseen circumstances, including force majeure.
