学習の成果	Upon completion, students will be able to: (1) recognize how war has been represented in different media; identify how the representation of war in popular media affects how society accepts or rejects war as a course of action; (3) analyze selected media and how they represent war, and (4) appreciate the potential of media to promote peace.
授業の目標・概要等	Students will explore the representation of war in media such as news, photography, film, music, and other visual and multi-sensory texts. They will also be able to recognize that the visualization of war through media affects our perception of war at an individual and societal level.

授業で取り入れる 学習手法
予習・復習への アドバイス	Identify a piece of media (news, music, photograph, museum, monument or memorial, movie, manga, videogame) that depicts war and interests you. Familiarize yourself with it and apply what we learn every week when you analyze it.
履修上の注意 受講条件等	The class will be conducted fully in English. Your chosen media can be in Japanese but be prepared to present and write about it in English. English proficiency will not be a basis for grading, as long as you try your best to communicate and be open to improving your communication skills.
成績評価の基準等	Class Participation (40%), Short Written Analysis (30%), Class Presentation (30%).

実務経験の概要と それに基づく授業内容	I have experience in curating and designing museum exhibits and providing expert advice on historical representation in war memorials in the Philippines.
メッセージ	The media we consume shapes our worldview and opinions, especially on issues like war. Recognizing that media is inherently biased, it is essential to critically assess how it portrays war—whether justifying or questioning it. This critical engagement helps us form a more informed perspective in our quest for a more peaceful future.
