Class Objectives
/Class Outline
In this lecture, students will be provided with fundamental knowledge of biomass energy technology, particularly the use of genetic engineering techniques to improve the biomass and sugar contents of crops and other plants. Students will also engage in discussions with instructors about the biomass energy situation in their home countries and regions, comparing it with advanced technologies that are being researched and applied in Japan and other countries.
Class Schedule In this lecture, basic knowledge on the use of genetic engineering—such as molecular breeding and the isolation and identification of QTLs and genes related to high biomass and sugar content in crops—is first introduced. Secondly, research achievements on sweet sorghum and other crops, including rice, are presented to students, followed by discussion.
