Class Objectives /Class Outline |
As a bridge from the case method to the problem method, this course aims to deepen students’ understanding of important criminal law precedents and major scholarly theories, while revisiting the fundamental areas of criminal law—such as interpretation, principles, and methods of legal analysis—to reinforce and refine any insufficiently developed competencies. Students will cultivate the ability to accurately grasp and analyze factual circumstances and extract relevant legal issues, which is essential for resolving concrete case problems. The course also aims to develop students’ skills in precisely reading lengthy judicial opinions and in clearly articulating their own views. |

Suggestions on Preparation and Review |
Preparation A preparatory case assignment will be provided for each session. Students should examine the assigned case in advance and organize the questions that arise during preparation—such as the issues they identified, how they approached those issues, and the understanding they gained through that process—so that they are able to report them during class. For the three case study exercises, students must prepare written drafts beforehand and submit them prior to class.
Review After each class, students should revise their drafts based on the explanations given in class and the comments provided on their submitted work. |
