Goals
The objective of this course is to enable students to acquire fundamental knowledge of copyright law and to understand and explain major issues by focusing on judicial standards developed in case law.
Overview
Intellectual property law is a collective term encompassing the Patent Act, Utility Model Act, Design Act, Trademark Act, Copyright Act, Unfair Competition Prevention Act, and related statutes. It is a body of law designed to protect information—namely, intellectual property—as its subject matter.
In this course, students will analyze and examine major topics in copyright law, including:

the characteristics of intellectual property,
the structure of intellectual property law,
the purpose of the Copyright Act,
works of authorship,
authors and employee-created works,
copyrights,
limitations on copyrights,
moral rights of authors,
neighboring rights, and
legal remedies for copyright infringement, including deemed infringements.
