1 From the viewpoints of government and citizens, subjects of local management will be examined with discussions relating with regional policy, local economy and civil society. In addition, an actual situation of the region will be grasped, which enables us to consider how to review vested rights and an existing system to examine regional management from a long-term point of view. 2 Specifically, regional branding, issues such as wide-area tourism , disaster and reconstruction, town development with collaboration of government and NGO are selected in order to improve skills for economy & society analysis , agenda-setting and the policy proposals . |

Session 1: The Significance of Regional Management April 13 (Mon), 18:00-21:10 This session introduces the basic concepts of “region” and “nation,” the key actors in regional management, and the relationship between governance, local autonomy, and democracy. Session 2: The Future of Community Development April 27 (Mon), 18:00-21:10 This session examines current issues in community development, including local communities, the possible disappearance of municipalities, population decline, vacant houses, and aging infrastructure. Session 3: Municipal Mergers and Regional Management May 11 (Mon), 18:00-21:10 This session discusses the Heisei-era municipal mergers, problems and mismatches caused by mergers, challenges in wide-area administration, and the proposed regional bloc system (D?sh?sei). Session 4: Regional Branding May 25 (Mon), 18:00-21:10 This session explains the concept of branding and brand management, and explores regional branding and tourism strategies. Session 5: The Setouchi Brand and Tourism June 8 (Mon), 18:00-21:10 This session focuses on tourism in the Setouchi region, World Heritage sites, and regional studies, including the work and legacy of Tsuneichi Miyamoto. Session 6: Disasters and Regional Management June 22 (Mon), 18:00-21:10 This session examines natural disasters, the history of pandemics, and the relationship between disaster recovery and regional development. Session 7: Hiroshima’s Reconstruction after the Atomic Bombing July 6 (Mon), 18:00-21:10 This session explores Hiroshima’s history, postwar reconstruction, economic development, and peace policy in a global context. Session 8: New Developments in Regional Management July 13 (Mon), 18:00-19:30 The final session discusses the role of the civic sector, media, social media (SNS), and global perspectives in contemporary regional management. |
