Class Objectives /Class Outline |
This course aims to cultivate advanced skills in reading Indian and Tibetan Buddhist texts while engaging with current scholarship in Buddhist studies. This year, we will closely read the introductory chapter of Madhyamakāvatāra by Candrakīrti in its Sanskrit original and Tibetan translation, together with the commentary Dbu ma la 'jug pa'i dka' gnad by Grags pa seng ge (vol. 49 of the Bka' gdams gsung 'bum). Based on translations prepared by participants, we will conduct detailed textual analysis and seek to clarify the distinctive features of Grags pa seng ge's commentary, which has not yet been sufficiently studied. |
