Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This course aims to enhance learners’ logical, analytical, and critical thinking skills, as well as their overall Japanese language proficiency and ability to express ideas effectively, through upper-intermediate Japanese language study. Regardless of students’ academic specializations, the course focuses on developing the ability to communicate logically and appropriately in academic contexts on a wide range of topics in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.

Course Objectives
The objectives of this course are as follows:
To review intermediate-level Japanese vocabulary, expressions, and grammar, while acquiring upper-intermediate-level grammatical patterns and expressions related to various academic themes, thereby activating and expanding learners’ existing knowledge.
To develop the ability to think analytically and critically about information encountered in Japanese and to articulate logical and well-reasoned opinions in Japanese by making effective use of one’s language skills.

Preparation and
Review
-Using the worksheets provided, students are required to confirm the pronunciation, meanings, and example sentences of newly introduced vocabulary and expressions in advance. For the grammatical patterns covered in class, students are expected to actively use them in writing and speaking in order to internalize them as practical language knowledge.
-Students are also required to prepare in advance for the discussions conducted at the end of each unit. Using the worksheets distributed beforehand, students should research the assigned themes and organize their own ideas and arguments prior to class. 
Requirements Only non-native speakers of Japanese who have taken the placement test administered by the Morito Institute of Global Higher Education and have been placed at Level 3 (Intermediate) or Level 4 (Upper-Intermediate) are eligible to enroll in this course. Students placed at Level 3 must confirm and comply with the enrollment regulations for Level 4 courses prior to registration.
A final examination will be administered in the 16th class session of the semester.
Students who are absent for one-third or more of the total number of class sessions will not be eligible for course evaluation or grading. 
Grading Method Class Participation and Assignments: 40%
Final Presentation: 20%
End-of-Semester Examination: 40% 
Practical Experience  
Summary of Practical Experience and Class Contents based on it  
Message Students are required to write and submit at least one essay of approximately 800 characters. In this course, we will review key points of academic writing at the upper-intermediate to advanced level. 
Other Class contents and grading criteria are subject to change.
