Class Objectives /Class Outline |
In this course, students will learn about the realities of research through interviews with women researchers. The objectives of the course are to: 1) acquire fundamental knowledge about career paths in research; 2) understand the information necessary for pursuing graduate studies and identify appropriate directions for preparation; and 3) develop the ability to present their envisioned future career plans. |
| Class Schedule |
Lesson 1: Guidance — What is research? What do researchers do? What is graduate school? Group assignments. Lesson 2: Learning from Role Models — Lectures and roundtable discussions with women researchers (from both STEM and humanities fields). Lesson 3: Preparation for Laboratory Visits — Developing interview questions in groups. Lessons 4–5: Laboratory Visit I — Lab tour and interviews with female faculty members. Lessons 6–7: Laboratory Visit II — Lab tour and interviews with female faculty members. Lesson 8: Presentation Meeting (Final Report Session). Notes: Lessons 1–3 will be held on Saturday, July 25. (Lessons 1–2 will be held jointly with Research in Practice A: Interviews with Corporate Researchers.). Lessons 4–7 will be conducted during the summer vacation period. Lesson 8 will be held in late September.

Assessment is based on a Pass/Fail system (no five-level evaluation). To earn credit, students must: Participate in all lessons, Actively conduct interviews, Give a final presentation, and Submit the final report. |
