To help students develop their understanding of the characteristics of English texts and their skills in utilising them; to develop students’ understanding of the purposes and intentions lying behind the surface of texts, involving an awareness of the writers’ social and cultural contexts.

Requirements  
Grading Method Assessment will be conducted based on the following criteria:

(1) Text Types and Structure
Students can identify various genres and types of texts.
Students can understand text structure and grasp the flow of information.
Students can recognize textual cohesion (e.g., relationships expressed through conjunctions and pronouns).
Students can distinguish between formal and informal styles and expressions.

(2) Reading Strategies and Cognitive Skills
Students can appropriately use reading strategies such as skimming and scanning.
Students can understand the overall meaning of a text.
Students can infer information from context and identify the author’s intention and purpose.
Students can read English texts at an appropriate pace.

(3) Vocabulary and Grammar
Students possess the vocabulary and grammatical knowledge necessary to understand English texts and can apply this knowledge to comprehension.

Grades will be determined comprehensively based on classroom learning activities and examination results, according to the following distribution:
Assessment Breakdown
・Tests (including quizzes, short tests, midterm examination, and final examination): 60%
・Assignments (in-class and out-of-class tasks, reading assignments, etc.): 40%

Grading Scale
Final grades are based on the total score (out of 100 points) according to the following criteria:
90–100: Excellent
80–89: Very Good
70–79: Good
60–69: Satisfactory
59 or below: Fail

Participation in class and assignment submission status will be considered as reference factors in the evaluation.
