Class Objectives

This course aims to develop students’ ability to express themselves orally in English in appropriate ways in everyday situations. Students will also learn to express their ideas and opinions clearly and concisely in English while being aware of the social and cultural backgrounds of their interlocutors.

Students are expected to study actively and continuously outside class hours through preparation and review.

Requirements Students who are absent for more than one-third of the classes will, in principle, not be allowed to take the final examination. 
Grading Method Grading Criteria
Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:
(1) Conversational Interaction
Ability to speak with clear pronunciation and appropriate intonation
Ability to respond appropriately to what is being said
Ability to produce a sufficient amount of relevant information in conversation
(2) Self-Expression
Ability to express ideas logically and persuasively
Ability to clearly present one’s opinions and ideas in front of others
(3) Vocabulary and Grammar
Possession of sufficient vocabulary and grammatical knowledge to communicate effectively in the situations described in the syllabus.
(4) Positive Attitude toward English Communication
Active participation in communication activities
Efforts to maintain communication even when immediate comprehension or expression is difficult

Grading Distribution
Final grades will be determined comprehensively based on classroom activities and examinations according to the following distribution:
Examinations
(speaking tests, presentations, quizzes, midterm exams, final exams, etc.): 40–60%
Assignments
(in-class and out-of-class assignments, speech scripts, practice presentations, etc.): 40–60%

Grading Scale
Grades are determined based on the total score (out of 100 points):
90–100: Excellent
80–89: Very Good
70–79: Good
60–69: Satisfactory
