Class Objectives /Class Outline |
Students are grouped into small groups and assigned to an instructor. Each student conducts a research and participates in experiments, practical trainings, discussions, seminars and presentations in the field of science technology in the group under the instructor. As a part of orientation function of university education that based on voluntary learning, it is aimed to increase the motivation to intellectual activities at early stage after enrollment, and to develop logical and critical thinking skills and appropriate self-expression ability. In addition, as the start of learning in university, it is aimed to promote communication between students and instructors as well as among students to develop learning networks. |
| Class Schedule |
Non-lecture style class, experimental and interactive learning form, such as seminars, discussions, experiments, and practical trainings, are conducted. Specific contents vary with team.
1:“Mathematics for electrical and electronic engineering” Mesoscopic Physics Theory Group (Prof. Takane, Prof. Nishida) Various mathematics are used in the field of electrical and electronic engineering. In this seminar, we learn the basics of mathematics necessary to understand electrical and electronic engineering.
2:“Learning the Fundamentals of Science and Technology through Semiconductor Cleanroom Experience” Semiconductor Electronics Lab. (Prof. Higashi, Prof. Hanafusa, Prof. Yu) Through hands-on training in a semiconductor cleanroom, students learn ways of thinking in science and technology, particularly in the fields of electronics, information, and communications, and conduct literature research on questions they identify themselves, followed by presentations and discussions.
4:“The world of nanotechnology and electronic devices” Material Science Nanotechnology Lab. (Prof. Suzuki, Prof. Sakaue) The physics of nanotechnology and electronic devices is studied through experiments of electronic circuits, reading a book, research in internet, and discussion. Presentation skills are also practiced during the class.
5:“The fundamentals and applications of mathematical sociology” Social Informatics Lab. (Prof. Hayashida, Prof. Sekizaki, Prof. Morikawa) In this seminar, participants can learn about mathematical sociology which can analyze social phenomena in our society.
8:“Robotics technology” Sensing Informatics Lab. (Prof. Ishii, Prof. Shimasaki, Prof. Wang) What is robot? Discuss and make presentation about current and future application of hyper human technology based on robotics.
9:“Secrets of LSIs - Understanding Semiconductor Devices by fabricating Solar Cells” Research Institute for Semiconductor Engineering (RISE) (Prof. Iwasaka, Prof. Kuroki, Prof. Teramoto, Prof. Kameda, Prof. Goto, Prof. Koide, Prof. Miyake, Prof. Song, Prof. Yokogawa, Prof. Ji, Prof. Muraoka, Associate Professor (name to be announced, effective April 2026)) Practical Learning on Semiconductor Devices: Fabricating semiconductor solar cells using facilities in RISE. By the fabrication and measurements, you can understand physics and engineering of the semiconductor devices.
10:“Recent Trends of Technology and Business on Electronics” Frontier Integrated Systems Lab. (Prof. Fujishima, Prof. Kuboki) Discuss recent trends of electronics technology and business in companies and academics.
11:“Science and technology of light” Semiconductor Quantum Optics Lab. (Prof. Kadoya) Optical technology has become indispensable in our daily life, industry, and society. This seminar aims to promote interest in the science and technology of light through experiments related to light. |
