Class Objectives /Class Outline |
Based on discussions with the supervisor, students will set a research topic, and work toward its solution using a various methodologies including mathematical approaches. Research will proceed through activities such as reading and discussing relevant textbooks and research papers, conducting experiments and discussions, and giving regular progress reports. The outcomes will be compiled into a thesis, and students will present their work at a final thesis presentation session. Through this process, students will develop a full set of research skills, from problem setting and investigation to discussion, presentation, and scientific writing. |
| Class Schedule |
Research supervision will be provided as needed. We will hold regular textbook/paper reading groups and laboratory seminars, where students will train scientific thinking through discussions and presentations and build skills in conducting and presenting research in the mathematical sciences.
The seminar presentation by the students at each lesson is evaluated, from the viewpoints of preparation, presentation, contents and performance, to reflect them all in the final credit. |

Suggestions on Preparation and Review |
Please prepare in advance for your sections in reading groups and related activities. Everything you have studied will be valuable for your research, discussions, presentations, and Q&A. There is no single “correct” answer in these activities; what matters is how you set the problem and develop your own perspective. So please express your ideas without hesitation. |
