This course focuses on the first half of the General Provisions of the Civil Code and aims to provide students with the foundational knowledge necessary for the study of the Civil Code. By examining the positioning of judicial precedents and academic theories, students will develop a theoretical and systematic understanding of this part of the Civil Code and cultivate the fundamental skills of legal reasoning outlined below: (1) To acquire legal reasoning methods based on the “legal syllogism” and issue-oriented analysis. (2) To develop a legal mind by considering the nature of legal values and understanding methods of balancing competing interests. (3) To understand the systematic structure of the Civil Code. (4) To understand methods of statutory interpretation through the interpretation of specific provisions of the Civil Code. (5) To develop the ability to construct legal arguments in written form. (6) To develop the ability to identify legal issues from concrete cases. |

| Requirements |
Students must bring the designated textbook and statutory code (Roppō) to every class. Since note-taking is a fundamental part of the course, students should prepare a dedicated notebook for this subject. It is recommended to take this course alongside Civil Law (General Provisions II) for a comprehensive understanding. |

Final Exam: 90%, Review Assignments: 10% Students unable to take the final exam must follow the official university procedures to apply for a make-up exam. |
