To understand what pictorial expression is by examining the various components that make up a painting in terms of the method of expression and painting materials. To acquire the ability to read the artist's intention in a work of art. To acquire knowledge and skills that will be useful for teaching painting expression in the future in educational settings.

Session 1: Course overview; the possibilities of two-dimensional expression; “What Is Paint?” (1) (theory). Session 2: “What Is Paint?” (2) (practice: making paint). Session 3: “What Is Paint?” (3) (practice: painting/drawing). Session 4: “On Art Appreciation”; “Various Painting Methods Using Watercolor Paint” (1) (theory and practice). Session 5: “Various Painting Methods Using Watercolor Paint” (2) (practice and discussion). Session 6:“Observation and Depiction” (1) (theory). Session 7:“Observation and Depiction” (2) (practice). Session 8:“Observation and Depiction” (3) (practice). Session 9:“Observation and Depiction” (4) (presentations). Session 10:“On Diverse Forms of Making and the Interpretation of Artworks” (1) (theory). Session 11: Workshop planning; presentation preparation (1). Session 12: Workshop planning; presentation preparation (2). Session 13: Workshop planning; presentation preparation (3). Session 14:Workshop implementation; discussion (1). Session 15:Workshop implementation; discussion (2).
There will be no examinations, but all students will give presentations in 14th, and 15th sessions. Each student will be required to prepare a PowerPoint presentation and resume for the presentation. Students are required to submit a report after each class. |
