Class Objectives
/Class Outline
In this seminar, we will read the play “The Visit” by Friedrich Dürrenmatt together. The play is a so-called tragicomedy, which means that it is both comic and serious, even sad. In each class session, we will read about ten pages of the drama, discuss the content in class, and complete short related tasks. The aim is to gain a better understanding of the author and the work, and at the same time to improve German language skills (reading and speaking).
In addition to the course, we will watch the film adaptation of the play and the film “Es geschah am hellichten Tage” for which Dürrenmatt wrote the screenplay.
