Class Objectives
/Class Outline
In this course, we will read very short texts ranging from one to five pages by writers of the postwar period. Through these texts, students will gain insight into how people lived in the postwar era and how they perceived their reality. At the same time, the course offers an encounter with some of Germany’s most renowned authors. We will read texts by three writers: the early deceased Wolfgang Borchert and the Nobel Prize laureates Günter Grass and Heinrich Böll.
We will read the short texts together in the original and then interpret them collectively.
