Class Objectives /Class Outline |
This seminar undertakes close readings of seventeenth-century American colonial poetry, examining its relationship to Puritan theology, biblical hermeneutics, and colonial discourse. Focusing primarily on New England poetry, the course seeks to clarify how the origins of American literature were intertwined with the religious imagination. No summaries will be permitted; every line will be read and analyzed verbatim. Students will read the text aloud line by line and will be responsible for providing a Japanese translation, grammatical explanation, and the presentation of key questions to guide discussion. |
