Class Objectives
/Class Outline
his advanced seminar uses "Lüshi Chunqiu Jishi" (呂氏春秋注釈), edited by Xu Weiyu (許維遹), as its primary text. We will conduct a close reading of the thirty-six chapters of the "Six Discourses" (六論) section of the "Lüshi Chunqiu" (呂氏春秋), compiled in the late Warring States period.

Particular emphasis will be placed on traditional and modern commentaries. By carefully comparing the interpretations of Gao You (高誘:Later Han dynasty), Bi Yuan (畢沅:Qing dynasty evidential scholarship), and Xu Weiyu (許維遹) (Republican period), students will cultivate advanced competence in reading classical Chinese texts at a scholarly level.

Students enrolled in this course are expected to demonstrate a deeper level of understanding than those in the “A” course.
