Class Objectives /Class Outline |
This course explores the Japanese concept of Chiiki, a term that can be translated as “area,” “region,” or “local community.” Thirteen instructors introduce their respective Chiiki from diverse academic perspectives, including history, geography, sociology, and literature. The regions and communities discussed span not only various parts of Japan but also other areas around the world. In the final portion of the course, we will work to integrate the insights gained from these multiple disciplinary approaches. |
