/Class Outline
This course introduces the field of Education and Development and more broadly Comparative and International Education (CIE). It provides an overview of the historical development of the field, theories and methods applied to its academic inquiry, as well as key themes and issues debated within the field. Through theoretical and empirical readings combined with student-led presentations and discussions, the course aims to develop a critical appreciation of dominant and alternative theories and methodologies pertinent to the field. The concluding part of the course will provide the basics of academic writing in an aim to equip the students with skills for writing up their research in English.

This course consists of a combination of empirical and theoretical readings, lectures, discussions, group activities, and student presentations. Students are expected to come prepared to ask questions and contribute to classroom discussions based on the reading materials provided in advance of each lesson.  
Requirements  
Grading Method The grade will be calculated based on students’ participation (40%) and the evaluation of the final report assigned at the end of the course (60%).
