The purpose of this course is to develop a solid foundation that enables students to conduct research on second language acquisition of Japanese.  They are expected to learn how to read research paper critically, form a research question, and plan a research project.

Preparation and
Review
Review research paper critically and write the summary and your comments for each paper.  Do not quote any part of the paper and use your own words. Plagiarism is prohibited.   
Requirements Students are required to have a high level of Japanese language proficiency to understand lectures in Japanese, conduct discussions in Japanese, and complete report assignments. For international students, JLPT N1 is required.
Students who wish to apply the corpus to their Japanese language classes and research should also take the Japanese Pedagogy Seminar (4T). 
Grading Method Comprehensive evaluation will be made on (1) through (3).
(1)Assignment 1 (report assignment): 30%.
(2)Assignment 2 (teaching materials): 30%.
(3)Independent participation in discussion: 30%

Details of the various evaluation items and the content of the assignments will be clearly presented in class.

Message This class is designed to deepen students' understanding of Japanese language teaching practices utilizing corpora, and is not intended to improve students' corpus research skills.
We especially welcome "beginners" in the use of corpora and those who are aiming to improve their Japanese language teaching. 
Other (Note) This class is not a "Japanese language" class for international students. This is a specialized course for training Japanese language teachers.
