Class Objectives
/Class Outline
This course covers phonetics/phonology, graphemics, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, rhetoric, stylistics, literary theory, and sociolinguistics, deepening the knowledge on English communication as well as the structures and functions of English language. Based on these understanding, this course analyzes current ELT materials and discusses better materials construction. More specifically, this course analyzes textbooks and their supplementary materials. Students are required to designs teaching materials and worksheets by themselves, too.

Read the relevant articles accurately and critically considering its suggestions for ELT. Make your presentation logical and comprehensible.  
Requirements You need basic knowledge about English linguistics, English grammar, and ELT to follow this course.  Materials are distributed online. Therefore, students should bring their own PCs to class. 
Grading Method Participation (10%) and performance on presentations (30%), discussion (30%), and the term papers (30%).

Message The instruction language changes according to the participants' linguistic background. Both English and Japanese materials are used.
