1) Have an understanding of the social context of poor children in nineteenth-century British society.
2) Describe the general attitudes of poor people towards the poor law system in nineteenth century British society.

In this course I am going to discuss the situation of destitute children in relation to the Poor Law system from a sociological point of view in 19th century British society. It is important that students read the required chapters well in advance of each class. 
Requirements There are no specific prerequisites for this course.  
Grading Method Term papers and active class participation are required for this course.
