Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objective of this class is to comprehend the complex human motor control systems. The human body is a mechanically complex system composed of multiple segments and joints that are controlled by neural systems such as the brain and spinal cord. Throughout this lecture, students are expected to learn about: 1) the physical characteristics of the human body, 2) neural circuits involved in motor control, and 3) mathematical models of human motor control.
Class Schedule Lesson 1: Guidance (Kato)
Lesson 2: Reaching and Writing Movements (Kato)
Lesson 3: Joint Impedance 1 (Kato)
Lesson 4: Joint Impedance 2 (Kato)
Lesson 5: Spinal Reflexes and Motor Control (Kato)

Text/Reference
Books,etc.
In Kato's classes, handouts are provided from moodle and references are introduced as necessary. In Shinya's classes, students will be asked to pick up a textbook chapter and make a presentation. Examples of textbooks: Principles of Neural Sciences (Kandel), Human Motor Control (Rosenbaum), and Biological Learning and Control (Shadmehr). Students can copy a chapter, so they do not need to buy the textbooks.
