Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objective of this course is to explore the forefront of Buddhist studies through the close reading of Indian and Tibetan Buddhist texts. This year, we will focus on reading the introductory section of the commentary Pradīpoddyotana on the Guhyasamājatantra, along with Tsong kha pa's subcommentary on it. Based on translation materials prepared by the students, the course involves accurately reading and analyzing the Sanskrit original and Tibetan translation of the Pradīpoddyotana (cf. Campbell and Thurman 2020), as well as the Tibetan text of Tsong kha pa's subcommentary, and preparing annotated translations while incorporating research on related literature.
