Class Objectives /Class Outline |
In assigned laboratory, students carry out research along the research theme which decided individually. Specific goals are as follows. 1. Acquire skills of making own research plan based on the research theme and carrying out research following the plan. 2. Collect research materials related to the research theme and develop the skills to understand and analyze the positions of his or her research theme in the world from various aspects. 3. Acquire reading skills of research articles, especially research articles written in English. 4. Able to find the find an essential problem of research themes, analyze it, and to acquire the ability to solve the problem (skills of finding problem, analysis and problem solving) in the process of conducting the research. 5. Able to organize the research results, and acquire the written skills to describe the significance and validity of the results obtained coherently. 6. Able to present the research results verbally in a clear and understandable way and to acquire the skills of discussion (presentation skills and communication skills). |
Class Schedule |
The research schedule is discussed with supervisor. Graduate research guidance (research theme briefing) is carried out in the beginning of March in the previous academic year. Students are assigned to each education courses (laboratory) in the guidance. Research guidance is made at each laboratory afterward. The contents vary with laboratory and theme; however, the key stages, such as themes decision, are conducted generally with the contents listed below. 1. Deciding research theme, planning of research, and starting research Decide a research theme with advice from his/her supervisor, and make a research plan. In addition, participate in the weekly seminar and experiments in the laboratory and take tutorial from the supervisor for better understanding of the theme. From those experiences, enable students to conduct his/her own research. Students collect materials and literature related to the theme to understand the background of the research, and read articles in English in turns to develop reading comprehensive skills of professional articles and literature in English. 2. Writing graduation thesis Student write a graduation thesis based on his/her research results. Students are expected to write the thesis logically how the research result (data) lead to the conclusion and the importance and validity of the results. 3. Final Presentation Students make a final presentation of his/her research results. As same as the mid-term presentation, to make the essential points of the research clear and to be easy understanding for the audience, the resume, slides and speech should be considered carefully, and students are required to prepare for questions to answer accurately. |
