Goal of this class: “(C) appropriate training and learning the application of basic chemistry and chemical engineering science” in responds to the (C4) special course for chemical engineering.

Class Objectives
/Class Outline
To perform exercises on basic issues related to the heat transfer (K7504030) and reaction engineering (K7507030) classes, and to achieve a thorough understanding of the contents of both classes.
Learn the following knowledge and ability are the goal of the class.
1. Understand about heat equation and its derivation.
2. Ability to solve the steady-state heat conduction problem in various systems (flat plate, cylinder, sphere, fever, endothermic).
3. Ability to understand and solve one-dimensional unsteady heat conduction problem.
4. Understand and perform exercises on basic equations of the heat exchanger design.
5. Ability to solve problems in “laminar and turbulence flow” and “radiation-convection heat transfer complex”.
6. Learn about definition and concept of reaction rate.
7. Steady state approximation: Learn about non-elementary reaction rate equation (multiple reaction steps) using a rate-limiting step approximation.
8. Learn and perform exercise about method to derive basic equation for reactor design using stoichiometric relationship in the reaction.
9. Understand the analysis of a single reaction in each reactor by doing exercises.
10. Parallel reaction: Student will learn by practice the analysis of complex reactions such as sequential reaction.
The evaluation criteria are as follows: "learning and understanding" and "ability and skills".

lesson11 Problem and solution of a single reaction in each reactor.
lesson12 Problem and solution on how to determine the convective heat transfer and heat transfer coefficient, and how to calculate it using dimensionless number.

The problems which are not yet solved during class, will be submitted as a report in the next meeting.

Review
Lesson 1: No suggestion
Lesson 2-14: Enough preparation and review of each class is necessary.
Lesson 15: Review of all class is necessary. 
Requirements Students have passed heat transfer and chemical engineering class 
Grading Method ・Students are required to answer the exercises in each class. If students could not pass the exercises, the exercises become homework and should be submitted by next class.
・Achievement of "Class objectives" will be evaluated based on grade of 80 points for the exercise in each class and 20 points for Last examination. Students will pass when you get 60 points.
NOTE: Late submission of the exercise and low quality of the answer of the exercise will deduce points.
