Understand the overall picture of water-rock reactions occurring in seafloor hydrothermal zones and learn about water-rock reactions and life-available energy in hydrothermal active zones on solar-system bodies that hold present and past Earth and oceans. They will also learn the basics of geochemical modelling methods for these. |

Various organisms use some kind of chemical substance to metabolise energy. Primitive micro-organisms in submarine hydrothermal systems use chemicals released from rocks to metabolise energy. Keep this in mind when attending lectures and exercises. |
