/Class Outline In this class, important characteristics of sociological thoughts will be explained through understanding human family from traditional to contemporary.

lesson5 "Ie" and "Douzokudan"(2):Modernization of Japanese society and changes of family and kinship
lesson6 Development of "Douzokudan" controversy
lesson7 Theory of structuration and "Douzokudan" controversy
lesson8 Social system and changing modern family
lesson9 Social structure and some aspects of increasing ratios of nuclear family
lesson10 Low fertility of contemporary Japanese society(1): The present situation
lesson11 Low fertility of contemporary Japanese society(2): Some hypotheses of low fertility
lesson12 Ultra-aged society and results of social security system
lesson13 "No bond society" and some aspects of contemporary Japanese society

lesson8-9 Students will learn about family change in Japanese society after economic growth in 1960's.

lesson10-13 The present situation and the process of declining birth rate and aging in Japanese society will be outlined.

lesson14 Students will learn how sociological theories explain family change.

lesson15 Overall review will be presented.
