Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The objective of this course is to understand the foundations of Buddhist thought and the methodologies of Buddhist studies through the reading of fundamental texts of Indian Buddhism. This academic year, the course will focus on the Abhidhammatthasaṅgaha (Chapter 1), aiming to deepen understanding of "the analysis of the mind" while learning methods for interpreting the original Pāli text.

Requirements This course provides materials of the Japanese translation, making prior knowledge of Pāli or Sanskrit unnecessary. While designed for third-year students in Indian philosophy and Buddhist studies, it also welcomes students from other fields with an interest in Buddhism.  
Grading Method Submission of compiled results (50%) and participation in class discussions (50%).
