This class is mainly conducted in lecture style. We make explanations using the blackboard frequently. We will precede classes with distributed materials and slides as appropriate.

Through the specialized theories of museum collection, students will learn theories, methods and skills regarding contents, features, acquisition, organization and storage of museum collections. Through understanding research activities in museums, students will acquire a basic competence with museum materials.

/Class Outline
The objectives are to learn basic theories and methods regarding materials, which are the most fundamental resource in a museum, and to acquire a basic competence for with exhibition and promotion.
Students will receive an overview of the categories and features of museum materials(natural science areas) and the methods of their collection, organization and storage. Then we will explain collection theories for natural science areas (flora and geology) concretely and from the professional point of view.

Visit as many museums, including those of non-specialized areas, and try to acquire knowledge of museum collections. If you find museums which show their backyard to the public, try to have an active involvement.
