Class Objectives
/Class Outline
The goal of the course is to provide students with an understanding of the complex molecular structures (molecular conformation) of polymers, which are important in fields ranging from the chemical industry to biology, and to master the fundamentals of their molecular characterization methods.  After an initial understanding of the statistical properties of a single polymer chain, the thermodynamic properties of polymer solutions are studied in depth.
Class Schedule 1. Polymers
2. Conformation of the polymer chain and the chain statistics
3. Statistical-mechanics of the polymer chain (1) Flexible chains
4. Statistical-mechanics of the polymer chain (2) Excluded-volume effect
5. Statistical-mechanics of the polymer chain (3) Wormlike chains
6. Thermodynamics of polymer solutions
7. Nonlinear polymers(branched and ring polymers)
8. Polymer assemblies
