Legal sociology is a discipline that verifies and theorizes the hypothesis model which logically organizes the interrelationship between law and society based on survey data. Specifically, we will describe the reality of justice from the social relationship of the parties and professionals appearing in the trial process of each sentencing field, consider the availability and function of the justice system, and look into the future prospects.

Class Objectives
/Class Outline
1) We can systematically understand modern law phenomena (especially legalization of social order) from a sociological point of view.
2) Express contemporary law phenomena from a sociological point of view, refer to each other and critique. 
Class Schedule According to the composition of the text, we will pick up one or two themes each time and lecture while interwoven with latest trends.
Students will select three topics of interest, prepare reports, write them in a blog for classes, refer to each other and comment on each other, deepen understanding and expressive power about the legal system and its social roles.

Students will be required to submit comment in advance each class and 2 reports.

Please ask me how and why the status quo of Japanese legal system was made and maintained. 
Requirements Name of this subject: Sociology of Law or Socio-legal Studies.
  This class will adopt, as methods to implement each subject, “ 2 (4) cultivation of the ability to dissertate,” especially “② selectivity of the correct institution” and “④ the competency to write a legal document,” and then “ 3 (1) the perspective that every emerging problem has its social backgrounds.”
And I will evaluate your learning performances on the basis of such perspective as “② you can compare all related institutions at sight,” “④ you can properly represent in writing,” and “whether you try to reflect legal reasoning under social backgrounds.” 
Grading Method Reports 60% (2 times) and  advance comments 40% (at least 10 times. reading and participation for class discussion)
