This subject will teach students how various studies in the fields of the humanities and social sciences have influenced society, and vice versa, taking into consideration their relevance to other academic disciplines, including natural sciences and life sciences. Learning about the correlations between respective areas of study and society will be helpful for students to better understand what roles the humanities and social sciences are expected to play in creating a future society. This subject will also encourage students to explore how their individual research themes can contribute to the further development of human society so as to enhance their motivation for research.

Class Schedule Lesson 1: Introductory guidance to give students an overview of this subject [TAKAHASHI Yoshi].
Lesson 2: Correlations between society and such areas of study as multicultural society and comparative culture will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration. This lecture will focus on the relationship between national state/imperial state and society in present day East Asia, from the historical experience of minority [NAKAMURA Taira].
Lesson 3: Correlations between society and such areas of study as philosophy, ethics and cultural thoughts will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration [NEMOTO Hiroshi].
Lesson 4: Correlations between society and such areas of study as Japanese history, Oriental history and European history will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration. This lecture takes a cross-disciplinary approach to cultural exchange between Japan and the rest of the world, with a focus on early modern Japanese identity [YIN Xiaoxing].
Lesson 5: Correlations between society and such areas of study as geography, archaeology and cultural heritage will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration [ARAMATSU Yui].
Lesson 6: Correlations between society and such areas of study as Japanese linguistics, Japanese literature, Chinese linguistics, Chinese literature, European/American literature and English linguistics will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration. This lecture will introduce literature and film in the nuclear epoch, focusing on issues such as the environment and colonialism. [MATSUNAGA Kyoko].
Lesson 7: Correlations between society and such areas of study as Japanese linguistics, Japanese literature, Chinese linguistics, Chinese literature, European/American literature and English linguistics will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration. This lecture will focus on Indo-European studies and the human history from the perspective of Indo-European expansion [OZONO Junichi].  
Lesson 8: Correlations between society and economics will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration [GOTO Daisaku].
Lesson 9: Correlations between society and business administration will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration [VUONG Bao Ngoc].
Lesson 10: Correlations between society and law will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration [George MOUSOURAKIS].  
Lesson 11: Correlations between society and politics will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration. This lecture will focus on social problems prevalent in increasingly globalizing today from the viewpoint of political science/ international political science [CHOKYU Asuka].
Lesson 12: Correlations between society and sociology will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration. This lecture will focus on qualitative research methodology such as fieldwork of cultural anthropology and ethnography,etc [SEKI Koki].
Lesson 13: Correlations between society and such areas of study as psychology and behavioral sciences will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration. This lecture will focus on relationship of youth with family and psychological development [UMEMURA Tomotaka].
Lesson 14: Correlations between society and such areas of study as psychology and behavioral sciences will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration.
This lecture will focus on key concepts and phenomena in psychology and behavior as they relate to responses to disasters and how they were shaped from deep ethnographic work on the environmental consequences of technology and their effects on society [KABIR Russell Sarwar].
Lesson 15: Correlations between society and such areas of study as psychology and behavioral sciences will be introduced to students, taking their relevance to other academic disciplines into consideration.
This lecture will focus on the visualization of speech and its usefulness in language education [Noriko YAMANE].

Therefore, submit reports on a total of 7 assignments in 7 weeks.
