Class Objectives
/Class Outline The course will cover fundamentals about science history for humanities and social sciences.
This subject will teach students how literature, history, philosophy, linguistics, economics, business administration, law, politics, sociology, psychology, education, etc., which study human beings, society and outcomes of human/social activities, have achieved progress and formed current society in light of their relevance to other academic disciplines, including natural sciences and life sciences. It is designed to help students learn the history of respective areas of study so that they will not only gain a basic understanding of technicalities required for study programs at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences but also better  understand various fields of study, their history in particular, from an overall perspective.
(Total 15 lessons in an omnibus style)

Class Schedule Lesson 1: Introductory guidance to give students an overview of this subject
Lesson 2: History of multicultural society and comparative culture will be introduced to students in light of their relevance to other academic disciplines.
Lesson 3: History of philosophy, ethics and cultural thoughts will be introduced to students in light of their relevance to other academic disciplines.
In this lecture, I will trace how the phenomenon of combustion was elucidated, focusing on the concept of phlogiston in the 18th century. This will provide an overview of the process by which philosophy diverges into science.
Lesson 4: History of Japanese history, Oriental history and European history will be introduced to students in light of their relevance to other academic disciplines.
Truth in History：Why it matters
Now is the period when politics of post-truth and historical revisionism widespread, and we can’t distinguish between certain information and fake news on SNS. We discuss what contribution historical studies can make to bring solutions to such matters.
Lesson 5: Recent development of physical geography on natural hazards will be introduced  in light of their relevance to other academic disciplines.
Lesson 6: The history of American literature will be introduced to students in light of American culture (history, religion, etc.).【Shinsuke Ohchi】
Lesson 7: History of economics will be introduced to students in light of its relevance to other academic disciplines.
Lesson 8: History of management principles will be introduced to students in light of its relevance to other academic disciplines.
Lesson 9: History of law will be introduced to students in light of its relevance to other academic disciplines.
Lesson 10: History of politics will be introduced to students in light of its relevance to other academic disciplines.
The aim of this lecture on Political Science is to provide a brief overview of its history, focusing on the political scientists’ endeavors to reach the solid and “objective” foundation of politics.
Lesson 11: History of sociology will be introduced to students in light of its relevance to other academic disciplines.
This lecture discusses the history of anthropology and sociology in relation to other disciplines. It specifically focuses on the emerging field of anthropology/sociology of science, which studies scientific practices by “ethnographic fieldwork”, the qualitative method originally developed to understand “traditional” societies.
Lesson 12: History of psychology and behavioral sciences will be introduced to students in light of their relevance to other academic disciplines.
Lesson 13: History of psychology and behavioral sciences will be introduced to students in light of their relevance to other academic disciplines.
Lesson 14: History of education will be introduced to students in light of its relevance to other academic disciplines.
Lesson 15: History of education will be introduced to students in light of its relevance to other academic disciplines.
This session discusses the history of education sciences in relation to other disciplines. Specifically, it focuses on the changes in understanding on educational development in international education development, and education philosophies and theories behind them.
